Project Management

Project Management (PMBOK©)

We offer legitimate knowledge of PMBOK© and PRINCE2© framework. At Systoni you meet PMP and PRINCE2 PRACTITIONER holders. What project sponsors and senior managers know is that certification does not equal competence. When it is backed up by demonstrated experience then the skill set becomes unique.

It should be no surprise that for some projects sophisticated project management processes may become overkill. Especially when PMBOK© or PRINCE2©  is applied incompetently and rigorously. Knowing where to set the line is where experience comes into play. We use both methodologies as a toolbelt, common platform for project managers, framed best practices and techniques helping to prevent problems rather than responding to them. The lessons we learn comes to this – small implementations projects (couple of weeks in duration) and software development projects have to be carefully suited with PM tools.

Together with a customer we select and engage project management tools and techniques suitable to particular circumstances.

Finally, we know the end before we begin.

Architecting SAP© Solutions

Are you IT manager, or senior decision maker and struggle to understand factors influencing SAP system architecture?

No matter your specific role you may be overwhelmed by SAP new dimension products and business modules.

It is crucial to understand SAP technologies and concepts, before first project costs are booked.

Change management:

Implementing SAP is about implementing organizational change.

Fluent SAP configuration skills, technical proficiency and comprehensive business process understanding alone do not guarantee project’s success. Even mature organizations underestimate importance of change management when implementing SAP software. At one extreme, they totally neglect this fundamental process, eventually risking to fail because a project derails by the “human factor”.

People are the key element in overcoming resistance to change.

The target is to move from “old” to “new” expeditiously, to leave change denial phase and enter commitment to change phase as fast as possible. We enforce our customers to define an effective change management strategy, before the project kicks off. Our project leads assist our customers to adopt change management techniques, recommending to assign right “change agents”. Early in the project, we propose to ascertain which informal opinion leaders are likely to be resistant to change, and bring such individuals on a project’s board right from the start.

Quality Assurance

In general, SAP projects be conducted using one of three strategies:

1. Big Bang, where all functionalities go live at the same time

2. Incremental, step-by-step implementation

3. Site roll-out

The way we listed the strategies illustrate level or risk (in descending order) associated with each approach.

We recommend Big Bang approach for companies with high number of legacy systems to be replaced. The Big Bang allows to significantly lower interface development costs and may be a way to go when asynchronous implementation of SAP functionalities results in collision of company’s core business processes.

Incremental and roll-out strategies are relatively safer and may be chosen by companies with multiple business units. Customers benefit from lower transition costs and smaller project expenses incurred in a unit of time. Also quality can be assured easier as project members deliver better quality over project phases. But knowing these basic fact is not enough.

Future SAP software users contracting for SAP software implementation not only commit to project products, responsibilities, payment plans but also to specific implementation methodology. Widely recognized SAP implementation methodologies used by leading SAP providers have something in common. All are broken down in phases with specific deliverables resulting from each stage of implementation. Each phase-end offers clear in-built quality checks to assure deliverable’s compliance with a contracted outcome.

Risk Management

What you might have learnt in a hard way, is that risk is situational and mutually dependent. There is no textbook answer to a risk.

Regardless the applied implementation methodology we propose to our customers not to stop ongoing exercise of risk assessment. According to Systoni, it should combine elements of qualitative and quantitative risk rating. The first one alone is difficult to enforce in homogeneity and consistency, the latter is less ambiguous but may create specific numbers that in reality are inauthentic.
